| Women's Initiative Member Lynne Liberato Honored for Community Service | |
|
United Way Women’s Initiative member and Haynes and Boone, LLP Partner Lynne Liberato has been named the 2010 recipient of the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary’s annual Leon Jaworski Award for outstanding community service. She is the first female recipient in the award’s 23-year history.
“I am especially grateful to receive this award because of its focus on community service,” said Liberato. “I have had the joy of seeing the impact of United Way on our community and to be a part of making measurable improvements in the lives of our fellow citizens. I share this award with those who have made that possible.”
Liberato is considered among her peers as one of Houston’s most respected and accomplished attorneys, and her work outside the courtroom is equally impressive. Elected to the United Way Board of Trustees in 1993, Liberato has been a dedicated and tireless leader who has generously donated her time, energy and vision to United Way in a number of ways over the past 17 years, including:
• Chairman of the Board, (2005-2007)
• Chair, United Way THRIVE (2009- present)
• Board of Trustees and Executive Committee member (2003-2007)
• Chair, Board Governance and Nominations Committee (2007-2009)
• Chair, Hurricane Katrina/Rita Task Force (2005)
• Community Impact Committee (2003-2006)
• Chair, Allocations Task Force (1998-1999)
• Chair, Law Firm Initiative (2002-2006)
The Leon Jaworski Award, named for the famed Watergate special prosecutor, recognizes attorneys who donate their time to community improvement. A panel of business and community leaders selects the recipient. The award presentation took place on Tuesday, March 2, 2010.
We congratulate Lynne Liberato on this well-deserved honor. Her giving spirit and dedication to United Way of Greater Houston and our community make Liberato a true community hero.

| Charlene Ripley honored at 2009 Best Corporate Counsel Awards | |
|
Women's Initiative members make an impact—both professionally and in our community. Charlene A. Ripley, senior vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Linn Energy LLC, was honored for the impact she makes at the 2009 Best Corporate Counsel Awards on October 15, 2009.
Ripley received the award for "Outstanding Corporate Counsel with a Staff of 2-10." Nominator Carol Burke, partner in the Houston office of Pillsbury, Winthrop, Shaw, Pittman LLP, describes Ripley as a leader, team builder and strategic thinker.
Burke cited Ripley's role in helping Linn Energy realign their asset portfolio and her critical support in responding to the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy last year as a few of the reasons Ripley is so deserving of this award.
The Best Corporate Counsel Awards recognize the best and brightest legal professionals in Houston. The awards are presented by the Houston Business Journal, Porter & Hedges LLP, Prescott Legal Search and the Association of Corporate Counsel Houston Chapter.
United Way of Greater Houston congratulates Charlene A. Ripley on this great honor. We're lucky to have her on our side!
