Karen Taylor is senior vice president, human resources and chief diversity officer for Reliant Energy, Inc. She is responsible for all human resource and administrative functions company-wide. Taylor has served Reliant Energy or its predecessor companies since 1985, having joined the company with the acquisition of NorAm Energy Corporation in 1997. She has held a variety of senior management positions in the areas of planning, finance and human resources. Before she was named senior vice president in late 2003, she was vice president of human resources with responsibility for Reliant Energy's wholesale operations and corporate services. Previously, she served as vice president of administration for the Reliant Energy wholesale group; vice president of planning and procurement for the former Reliant Energy trading and transportation group; and vice president of finance for the former Arkla pipeline group, whose operations are now part of CenterPoint Energy. Taylor began her career in 1979 with the accounting firm then known as Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. Taylor holds a Master of Professional Accountancy from Louisiana Tech University and is a certified public accountant. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
