Mary M. Vitek is the Chief Executive Officer of the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. She is responsible for the operations and management of the largest Girl Scout council in the nation, which serves over 64,000 girls and 18,000 adults in 26 county areas of Southeast Texas. Membership in the Girl Scours is open to girls ages five to 17, and to adult men and women who embrace the Girl Scouts Promise and Law. Vitek provides daily direction and guidance to fulfill GSSJC's mission to be "the premier organization in its service area for building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place." Vitek also sewed in various capacities within the organization, including Assistant Executive Director of Finance and Fund Development and Controller. She has been employed with the Council since 1994. During her tenure, the Council reached the first $10 million cookie sale and completed a $12 million capital campaign. Vitek also oversees a $13 million budget, advising a 33-member board of directors and maintaining a relationship with key constituents, including members, volunteers, employees, donors, the media and Girl Scouts of the USA. Prior to joining Girl Scouts Vitek was a senior manager in the assurance practice at KPMG Peat Marwick. Vitek became a certified public accountant in 1988 and is a member of Sam Houston State University's College of Business Administration advisory board.
