United Way Celebrates Major Donors

United Way of Greater Houston celebrated the generosity of its Alexis de Tocqueville Society (ADT) Major Donors at a special dinner in their honor. More than 90 Alexis de Tocqueville Society members filled the Museum of Fine Arts' Rienzi on April 13 to honor this exceptional group of donors.
Jim Postl, ADT Society co-chair and retired president and CEO of Pennzoil Quaker State, welcomed guests and thanked them for supporting United Way. “We are honored to celebrate your tremendous impact on United Way of Greater Houston and our community,” Postl told ADT Major Donors. “You are what makes Houston great!”
Postl shared highlights from this year’s Alexis de Tocqueville Society campaign, which raised more than $14.1 million, an all-time high and an increase of $1.5 million over 2009-10 results.
Jim Crownover, former director, McKinsey & Company, and Major Gifts chair, highlighted the major donors' (individuals who contribute $25,000 or more annually) accomplishments this year:
- 115 major donors contributed a total of $5.9 million, up 32 percent
- Major donors accounted for 42 percent of the $14.1 million raised by the Alexis de Tocqueville Society this year
- 24 families contributed at the Visionary ($200,000 or more annually) and Benefactor ($100,000 or more annually) levels
