More than 200 United Way Young Leaders gathered at the Saint Arnold Brewing Company on September 14 to kick off their 2011-12 campaign.

Bryan Milton, president of ExxonMobil Global Services, welcomed Young Leaders and thanked them for their strong support of United Way. Milton commended Young Leaders for setting an example of generosity, commitment and community spirit.

“You all, as Young Leaders, are the future of your companies and Houston,” he told guests. “You’re emerging leaders who have the passion to get involved and to shape the Houston of the future.”

Milton shared some of the growing and changing needs in our community and how, through United Way, Young Leaders make a better Houston possible. “The needs in our community are great,” he said. “But your desire to lessen the struggles of others is leading to great accomplishments in improving the lives of Houstonians.”

Robert Boudwin, mascot and event specialist for the Houston Rockets and chair of the 2011-12 Young Leaders campaign, talked about the mission of the Young Leaders program and how this special group of donors plays an important role in the annual United Way campaign. He also announced that, this year, Young Leaders hope to raise $5 million for United Way.

“We are very lucky to live in a community with strong opportunities, strong corporations and a strong United Way,” Boudwin told guests. “With the help of all of you, we know we can come together and support United Way and Houston in a big way.”

In addition to getting energized about this year’s campaign, Young Leaders spent the evening snacking on pub-style bites and sampling Saint Arnold brews in special United Way beer glasses. In between rounds of Jenga and other board games, Young Leaders enjoyed music, networking, and private tours of Texas’ oldest craft brewery.

Young Leaders Council members in attendance included Sujata Bhatia, Melissa Bond, Robert Boudwin, Colette Harden, Sabrina Martinez, Sharon McCarter, Ryan McCauley, Greg McEldowney, Jon Metherd, Ron Oran, Lara Pringle, and Elizabeth Tosh.

Special thanks go to ExxonMobil for sponsoring this event.
