Luminaries Nancy and Rich Kinder
The Kinders' extraordinary giving fuels community impact
Thank you to Nancy and Rich Kinder, whose most recent $1 million gift to United Way of Greater Houston comes as United Way prepares to mark 100 years of service to the Greater Houston community in 2022, and will support United Way’s Second Century Vision.
The Kinders’ contribution bolsters United Way’s ongoing work to help our most neighbors who are struggling achieve financial stability and a sustainable quality of life. With more than 47 percent of families in our area struggling just to make ends meet, plus the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the local economy, increased unemployment, drained household finances, and strained nonprofit resources, the Kinders were inspired to renew their extraordinary support of United Way. They hope their gift will in turn inspire other Houston-area families to follow suit.
“Lifting up the many hard-working families and individuals in our community and supporting their pathway to self-sufficiency is an effective and critically important approach,” said Nancy Kinder, president and CEO of the Kinder Foundation. “We support United Way of Greater Houston’s new strategic vision because we recognize the impact it can have on those seeking a sustainable quality of life.”
The Kinders’ $1 million gift to the 2019-2020 Community Campaign marked the launch of United Way’s Luminary group, comprising individuals and families whose annual investment of $1 million or more lights the path to a better future for those struggling to improve their lives. The Kinders are longtime donors to United Way of Greater Houston and 2021 is the third consecutive year for the couple to make an extraordinary $1 million gift.
We once again thank Nancy and Rich Kinder for their extraordinary leadership and deep generosity. We are proud of and humbled by their belief in our mission and work.
