The Kinders' extraordinary gift will fuel community impact

Thank you to Nancy and Rich Kinder, whose most recent $1 million gift to United Way of Greater Houston comes as more of our neighbors are struggling to get by than ever before.

The Kinders’ contribution supports United Way’s ongoing work to create long-lasting, systemic change that helps our most vulnerable neighbors achieve financial stability and a sustainable quality of life. With more than 47 percent of families in our area struggling just to make ends meet, the Kinders were inspired to renew their extraordinary support of United Way. They hope their gift will in turn inspire other Houston-area families to follow suit.

“United Way anticipates that the role of the individual donor will be increasingly important in the decades ahead, and Rich and I agree,” says Nancy Kinder, CEO of the Kinder Foundation. “We support the strategic plan of the organization.”

The Kinders’ $1 million gift to the 2019-2020 Community Campaign marked the launch of United Way’s Luminary group, comprising individuals and families whose annual investment of $1 million or more lights the path to a better future for those struggling to improve their lives. Now, as COVID-19, along with the job loss and economic fallout it created, has left so many facing unprecedented hardships, the Kinders have once again invested $1 million in United Way's work to help families achieve stability.
