“She’s a strong reader now because of United Way and I’m grateful for it.”

Reading Together - Kenya’s Story

Kenya struggled with reading. Her skills were below grade level and she was in danger of not catching up.

Through third grade, kids are learning to read. In fourth grade, they’re reading to learn—and without reading proficiency, that learning is critically hindered.

Once Kenya began participating in United Way Reading Together, things started to change. With help from her reading buddy, Kenya’s reading skills have improved and she has become more and more confident and excited about reading.

Now, Kenya is not only reading proficiently, she loves to read. In fact, she says she wants to read every single book, every single day!
