Helping students build math skills and increasing algebra passage rates

United Way MATH

United Way MATH (Mastering Algebra Together Houston) is a partnership between United Way of Greater Houston and ConocoPhillips, aimed at improving Algebra I passage rates through increased hands-on experience with math, by making career connections and through peer-to-peer tutoring. United Way MATH trains eighth-graders on the academic bubble to become student leaders and tutors to sixth-graders who are also struggling in math.

170 students are participating at six schools.

70% of United Way M.A.T.H. middle school students improved their algebra skills this year.

80% of United Way M.A.T.H. elementary school students  increased their knowledge of basic math concepts, like addition and multiplication, from the pre- to post-test.
