Will I be on my own with the students?
No, you’ll have a team. You’ll likely be paired with another volunteer and United Way staff will be there to help.

Do I have to pick my own books?
No. There will be books available, appropriate for the grade level you’re reading to.

Is it just reading, or is there more?
There are guided reading-themed activities you can do with your students, too. They’re easy and you’ll get all the training you need ahead of time.

What if the kids have questions I can’t answer?
No problem; kids are inquisitive. You can always tell them, “What a great question! You should ask your teacher that later today!”

If I come this time, am I signing up to do this regularly?
No. This is a one-time-only volunteer commitment, perfect if you don’t have time every week. If you would like more info on ways to stay involved, please ask!
