Keynote Presentation and Lunch

Chris Gardner is a businessman, investor, stockbroker, motivational speaker, author, and philanthropist who, during the early 1980s, struggled with homelessness while raising his son. His life story became the basis for the 2006 major motion picture "The Pursuit of HappYness" starring Will Smith. His amazing story illustrates the need for United Way's work in the community, helping to ensure that individuals and families can achieve financial stability and thrive.

United Way THRIVE Upskill Journey + 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE Tour - Learn how United Way THRIVE’s workforce development services help people gain the skills they need to start a career that can support their family, and see the impact United Way THRIVE’s wraparound support has on hardworking families. This session will end with a chance to hear real calls from our 2-1-1 Texas/United Way HELPLINE.​

United Way THRIVE Bus Tour (1:00-2:30 pm) - Experience firsthand how United Way THRIVE is moving families on the pathway toward financial stability. Meet students at SER Jobs for Progress who are gaining the skills necessary to enter a career in welding, and hear from THRIVE partners how financial coaching and matched savings are helping families reach their financial goals.
